How to Use Astrology in Your Daily Life - Step 1 - Learn Your Natal Birth Chart

Astrology is a divine science, art form and tool that can be utilized to gain guidance, wisdom, warnings, windows of opportunities and new perspectives on every area of life.

Regardless of how often you use it or what area of life you need help with, there are three steps you should follow to get the most out of this incredible tool. 

Before reading any more horoscopes or Instagram astrology memes, follow these three steps.

Step 1 - Learn Your Natal Birth Chart

Learn your Natal Birth Chart by either learning how to read charts yourself or get a professional reading. This means looking at an actual wheel chart and developing a deep understanding of all the aspects. PLEASE DELETE CO-STAR! Co-Star will not help you.

You will use your Natal Birth Chart in everything else you do with astrology.

Learning your Natal Birth Chart is like reading a car manual. The manual outlines how the car was designed to function and how to take care of the car so that it runs optimally.

•  unique perspective on life, 
•  how they think and communicate,
•  how they are uniquely built, 
•  personality traits (including shadows and less desirable qualities), 
•  deepest desires,
•  motivations,
•  karmic lessons, 
•  intuitive gifts and abilities, 
•  how different areas of life are connected,
•  major themes that will play out throughout their life and 
•  how cycles play out in their life.

Your chart is completely unique to you and here’s why…

A Natal Birth Chart is a snapshot of where the planets were in the sky from your viewpoint on Earth the moment your were born. It is dependent on the exact time and place of your birth. For example, two people who were born at the exact same time but in different cities on opposite sides of the world will have different birth charts.

The layout of the planets in particular Zodiac signs show a person's strongest character traits and how they will innately respond to situations. The Houses with planets show the areas of life a person will focus on the most throughout their entire life. 

Some astrologers even say a Natal Birth Chart shows a person’s unique Destiny and Purpose in this life. 

We'll save the debate about Destiny, Fate and Purpose and a discussion on levels of Internal and External Reflection for anther day, but I'll leave you with the the quote by the 6th century Greek Philosopher and Astrologer Heraclitus to contemplate,

"Man's fate is his character.” 

Your natural character (aka your unique perspective) is your gift you have to offer to the world. That perspective becomes clear by learning your Natal Birth Chart.

Starting with this first step will give you insights into yourself that you had never considered. 

Learning your chart for the first time is like looking into a very honest mirror that doesn’t hold back with what it reflects.

On one side, it can give you permission to be FULLY yourself. Many people feel incredibly relieved and validated when they learn their chart for the first time.

On the other, it can be very triggering to see the parts of you you don’t like.

But, you have to remember that each Zodiac sign has a Higher and Lower Expression. When you become aware of the more challenging or conflicting parts of your personality, you can evolve those traits into Higher Expressions, consequently raising your level of consciousness (aka awareness). 

I often attract clients who are going through huge life changes and transitions. If you are in this phase, know that you are evolving, and it is time to express a higher version of yourself. This is good news! It is a phase of shedding old skin. Letting go and letting the new expression emerge. This process requires a perspective shift, which astrology can offer you.

Another option to expand your awareness is to use the Zodiac wheel to consider other perspectives that may not come naturally to you. Study those areas or find people with those traits and speak with them about life through their eyes. You will gain a new level of compassion and gratitude for others.

Often times in sessions, clients clearly identify a block, wound or fear that had been alluding them for a while and then take that information into their next energy healing session, manifestation activation or ceremony. 

On a more uplifting note, you may learn about gifts, talents and abilities you didn’t not know you had!

From studying my own chart and life and those of my clients, I believe a Natal Birth Chart shows a person’s true core desires and motivations before any societal or parental programming. Even as you evolve, your core traits remain constant.

A great example of this concept is to analyze Bach’s Inventions and Fugues. He writes a short melody that we call a Subject or Motif and evolves it through a piece to create a beautiful, elaborate tapestry of music. Even as the motif evolves, the core elements of the motif are still recognizable.

How you utilize anything else in astrology depends on your perspective in life right now and how well you know how to use the instrument that is you.

You create from your own perspective with your current personality traits and abilities. Your creative potential expands when you learn more about yourself, new perspectives and new possibilities for higher levels of expression. 

A very good reason to learn astrology is that it can teach you all of these things!

Step 2 illuminates the specific energetic environment, what we could call the field of collective consciousness, we move through daily and what tools, opportunities and possible roadblocks will be in that environment for you to take advantage of or avoid.
